CAKE POWER: Volunteers want to beat last year’s total
YOUNG volunteers raising money for families caught up in the Syrian conflict hope to raise £300,000 by delivering cakes across the UK.
Under the #Cakes4Syria initiative, volunteers hope to break last year’s total when £250,000 was raised by delivering cakes whose combined weight was over 40 tonnes, or six fully grown African elephants.
Community fundraising and volunteer national manager, Zia Salik, said: “It’s going to be a challenge, but the volunteers are geared up and we al- ways receive terrific sup- port from the public.”
The #Cakes4Syria campaign is part of Islamic Relief’s annual Ramadan Appeal. This year’s theme is “SubhanAllah” and is about efforts by Muslims in tackling poverty.
The campaign employs over 1,600 volunteers, delivers to over 1,000 UK postcodes and generates more than a million social media posts.
