CCTV footage shows a firework being thrown into a chicken cottage
TWO masked men threw a firework into a Chicken Cottage restaurant leaving customers trying to protect themselves from its sparks.
Newly released CCTV footage shows explosive fireworks thrown into the kitchen and lobby of Chicken Cottage in Wimbledon at around 6.30pm last Thursday.
Saqib Fayyaz, 30, who works at the takeaway witnessed the attack while he was serving customers, which included a family with children.
“It was a huge blast and steam filled up the lobby, especially because it’s quite small. The fireworks left black stuff everywhere,” he told Wimbledon Guardian.
The attackers threw a ‘fountain’ firework through the entrance, which shot out orange sparks and bundles of thick steam.
Fayyaz said several of cusomters were struggling to breathe but no one was injured.
Owner Faraz Jan said he called police immediately who said they would send officers but no one turned up.
“It’s very frustrating because I have been in the area all my life. I feel let down,” he said.
The Police told his that the attack was a ‘drive-by’ so it would not require a visit, and that they would send someone down over the weekend.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “As the suspects had left the scene, the call grading was changed to an E grade, which requires that police attend the scene within 72 hours of receiving a call.”
“Every call made to police is assessed, based on a number of criteria and given the relevant grading.
“The grading may change as relevant information becomes clear.”
