AS CHILDREN at St Xavier’s School in Patna, we were taught – indeed, had to learn by heart – Tennys- on’s poem, Morte d’Arthur, about the death of King Arthur, which includes this lament for a lost leader:
“The old order changeth, yielding place to new,/ And God fulfils Himself in many ways, / Lest one good custom should corrupt the world.”
So goodbye, David Cameron. You have been a great prime minister, not with- out flaws, but you were a liberal, progressive leader who will be sorely missed – especially at Eastern Eye.
You have certainly brought India and the UK closer together, and British Indians (notably Priti Pa- tel) into the heart of your administration. Whatever the future holds, you will always be held in high regard by Indians.
