AN ASIAN dentist was the victim of a horrific attack at a supermarket when a white supremacist who shouted ‘this is for Lee Rigby’ started hacking at him with a machete, a court has heard.
Dr Sarandev Bhambra, 24, who had gone to Tesco to buy his lunch was singled out by Zack Davies, 26, who attempted to sever his victim’s left hand.
He told police he had chose Bhambra because of his skin colour, yelling ‘white supremacy!’ and ‘this is revenge!’.
Davies who was smiling and laughing through the terrifying ordeal was chasing the dentist through the aisles of the supermarket, who tried his best to escape. Davies hacked at his head, hand and back.
Mold Crown Court in Mold, Wales heard how a former soldier bravely stepped in his way and persuaded Davies to drop his weapons shouting: “Stop, this is madness, I am ex-forces.”
Fuller said Davies told him ‘We are under attack!’ but then his demeanour changed.
“The fact I said I was an ex-soldier, that I stood in his way, took the wind out of his sails,” he said.
Davies later told police: “It was me. I did it for Lee Rigby”, who found white supremacist and neo-Nazi material after raiding his home.
The items included swastika badges, Combat 18 stickers, a copy of Mein Kampf and a Far Right pamphlet dealing with the death of
Drummer Rigby, the soldier hacked to death by Islamic extremists near Woolwich barracks in 2013.
Davies admits attacking Bhambra at the supermarket in North Wales because he was Asian, but denies attempted murder.
Durign the trial on Monday (21) the court heard the victim’s account of the attack which left him with life-changing injuries.
“I am extremely lucky to be alive,’ said the trainee dentist, who had graduated a few months earlier. He was working two days a week at a surgery in the area.
“I thought I was going to die. I was horrified.”
The trial continues.
